Journal History

Limited financial resources for educational research in Peru remain a significant obstacle to disciplinary advancement. Inadequate funding for quality research projects hampers researchers’ capacity to address critical educational issues, often resulting in smaller-scale projects that limit research depth and scope. Additionally, funding shortages impede the training of new researchers and talent retention, as early-career scholars may seek opportunities abroad with greater resources.

Disseminating research findings is another persistent challenge in Peru. Valuable research often fails to reach policymakers, educators, and key stakeholders. Ineffective communication channels and low research visibility hinder evidence-based practices and educational policy improvement. Strengthening links between researchers and decision-makers, alongside promoting accessible academic communication, is essential for ensuring educational research in Peru significantly impacts national education enhancement.

Consequently, in January 2019, Alternancia Journal of Education was established in response to the Latin American Education Network’s (RELE) goals of advancing educational research in Peru. The journal created a cultural space to disseminate scholarly findings in educational sciences, psychology, and pedagogy. The editorial team comprises primarily educators committed to valuing scientific writing and its contributions to academic communities.

In 2024, following dialogues with Peru’s academic community, José Carlos Mariátegui University incorporated Alternancia into its publishing entity. This endorsement stemmed from the university’s leading role in training professionals through Education and Psychology programs, demonstrating José Carlos Mariátegui University’s commitment to promoting research and knowledge exchange in these fields.

Alternancia inclusion within the José Carlos Mariátegui University demonstrates a sustained commitment to the dissemination of high-quality research and scholarly work in education and psychology, benefiting both the academic community and society at large. This publication is indexed in Dialnet, AmeliCA, and the Latin American Network of Academic Journals in Social Sciences and Humanities (LatinRev). Additionally, it is evaluated by the Information Matrix for the Analysis of Journals (MIAR) and EuroPub. Alternancia has consistently maintained an open-call policy throughout the year, with a firm objective of fostering constructive dialogues that promote the advancement of educational research in Latin America.
